Teachers planning to migrate to Australia should take note of an upcoming fee increase from the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), effective 7 September 2026.
AITSL is the assessing authority for many school-teaching occupations under Australia’s skilled migration programme. A positive skills assessment is often a key early requirement for teachers pursuing skilled visas, state nomination, employer-sponsored opportunities and teaching roles in Australia.
The revised fees are as follows:
Assessment of Application: increases from AUD $1,154 to AUD $1,198
Skilled Employment Statement (SES): increases from AUD $254 to AUD $265
Appeal: increases from AUD $904 to AUD $938
While the increase is relatively modest, it is another cost applicants should factor into their migration budget, particularly where English testing, document preparation, state nomination and visa application charges are also involved.
Teachers who are close to being ready should consider whether they can submit their AITSL application before 7 September 2026 to secure the current fee. However, applicants should not rush an incomplete application simply to avoid the increase. A properly prepared application remains far more important than a small saving on the assessment fee.
