The Subclass 482 visa, also known as the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, allows skilled workers to come to Australia and work for an approved business for up to four years. This visa has three streams:
- Short-Term Stream
- Medium-Term Stream
- Labour Agreement Stream
To be eligible for the 482 visa, the applicant must:
- Have a job offer from an approved sponsor
- Meet the skill and English language requirements for the nominated occupation
- Meet health and character requirements
Pathways
After the expiry of your 482 visa, there are different pathways to extend your stay in Australia:
- Applying for a new TSS visa
- Applying for a permanent residence visa, such as Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa or Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa
Validity
The 482 visa is valid for up to four years. The duration of the visa depends on the length of the employment contract with the approved sponsor.
Financial Requirements
The financial requirements for the 482 visa include:
- Payment of the visa application fee
- Payment of the Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) levy by the sponsor
- Sufficient funds to support the visa applicant and any accompanying family members during their stay in Australia
Obligations
As a 482 visa holder, the visa holder must comply with the following obligations:
- Work for the sponsoring employer in the nominated occupation
- Notify the Department of Home Affairs of any changes in employment or circumstances
- Maintain health insurance for the duration of the visa
- Comply with all Australian laws, including taxation laws
- Meet any additional obligations set out in the visa grant notification letter
If the 482 visa holder fails to comply with these obligations, their visa may be cancelled and they may be required to leave Australia.
