How US citizens can apply for a police clearance certificate 2014-2015
All US citizens applying for a temporary residence long stay visa or permanent residency in South Africa should include a police clearance certificate when submitting their application to the Department of Home Affairs. Please note that state certificates are not accepted and all US citizens should apply for a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) certificate with fingerprints.
How can I obtain my certificate?
• Download the cover letter and fingerprint from the FBI. You can download the following forms from the FBI website.
• You need to have your fingerprints taken from a local police department or fingerprinting business and you need to have passport size photos taken.
• There are 2 payment methods accepted by the FBI Department;
1.1 Certified cheque
1.2 Money Order
The certified cheque or money order should be made out to the U.S treasury
• Your package should be mailed to;

Remember to include the cover letter, fingerprints and payment.
It will approximately take about 16 to 18 weeks for your police clearance certificate to be processed and sent to you. Please remember to include original police clearance certificates when submitting your application to the Department of Home Affairs.
