Family is everything, at New World Immigration we make sure you have ways to make a better life for the entire family, furry children included! The thought of leaving our pets behind is a big deterrent for many people when considering immigration, however, it is possible to bring them with.
Canada wants to know why you want to bring your pet with you, where your pet comes from and could they harm the environment. If you are planning on moving to Canada you need to start preparing for this process, here are some tips to keep in mind.
Pets’ documentation
Canada is a rabies-free country. This is a major concern and you must prove your pet has been vaccinated against rabies. The rabies vaccination certificate must be in the national language of Canada, issued and signed by a licensed veterinarian. The certificate needs to identify the animal, state the date, name and vaccine administered as well as specify the duration of immunity.
This vaccination from rabies is a big part of the application to get approval for your pet to be allowed to enter. There is no import fee for bringing a pet into Canada, however, you will need to be prepared for an inspection from a CBSA agent checking in on your documents and the health of your pet. This inspection is CAD$30 for the first pet and CAD$5 for any additional pet.
Transportation
This is by far the biggest cost of moving with your pet. Transportation of your pet has to be done humanely and meet the existing regulations of the country you are leaving, travelling through and arriving at. On top of country requirements, you also need to adhere to airline requirements.
These are the 2 major factors to consider when looking at moving with your fur children: diseases and transport. As soon as you have all the correct documentation for yourself you will be able to start the moving process. At New World Immigration we have a dedicated relocations team to assist you in this entire process. Now that the entire family can have a better life, enquire for a free assessment.
